August 2009

Welcome back to Dominican University of California!

We hope you enjoyed a wonderful summer. While you were away, we’ve been working on a number of projects that will make your time on campus even better.

Dominican Spirit Day 2009

The renovation of Edgehill, the “grande dame” of campus buildings, is well underway. When the building is finished next year it will house a chapel, offices for student life and campus ministry, an alumni space, and student lounges. It will serve as a gathering space for all students, including the Pathways and graduate students who contribute so much to campus life. This is a cause for celebration, and celebrate we will. On Saturday, September 26, Dominican is combining Convocation, Shield Day, and a parents/family day to mark the restoration of this historic landmark on campus with Dominican Spirit Day – featuring Dominican traditions, a barbeque lunch on the Meadowlands Lawn, and games for the entire family. Please mark your calendars now, and invite your parents, families, friends, and significant others to attend this celebration. More information will be sent to you about this special event after the start of the school year.

Online Registration Coming Soon

I’ve been chatting with some of the students who have been around during the summer, and one of the improvements that most pleases them is the introduction of online registration. It will be beta-tested during the fall term. By spring, students will have online access to their grade reports, class schedules, and degree audits. In keeping with Dominican’s emphasis on sustainability, class schedules and the catalog will be available online…no more paper! Also in this academic year, students will have an extended priority registration period.

A New Dining Experience at Caleruega

Come feast at – and feast your eyes on – the newly remodeled Caleruega Dining Hall. Throughout the summer, Caleruega has undergone a complete renovation including an improved layout, added stations, new tables, chairs, and vibrant artwork. Whether you’re living in the dorms or off campus, the new Caleruega is sure to become one of your favorite spots on campus.

Classes begin on Monday, August 24. We are looking forward to seeing you soon – and to an exciting new year!
