Women's Volleyball stumbles without Swingle
The Dominican Women's Volleyball team was in the midst of their biggest match
of the season on Friday night at Menlo College when they suffered their
greatest loss. Sophomore Setter and last week's Conference Player of the Week
Brooke Swingle went down with an injury in the third game, severely damaging
the team's hopes of a win. The Lady Penguins would battle on, but ultimately
fell short against the Lady Oaks, losing 23-25, 26-24, 21-25, 20-25. The team's
troubles continued the following night at Bethany, losing in three games,
23-25, 24-26, 21-25.
For the week,
Junior Outside Hitter Gabby Pecora continued to play well with a 3.71
kills/game average and 4.43 digs. Junior Outside Hitter Lorel Grande was second
in kills with 1.71. Freshman Mercedes Smith led the team in digs with 5.14.
Freshman Outside Hitter Cayla Morphew had seven blocks.
The team's record now stands at 6-9 with a 6-3 record in conference play.
They have three home matches this week against Academy of Art (Wednesday at
5:00 p.m.), Simpson University (Friday at 7:00 p.m.) and William-Jessup
