Women's Soccer continues roll

The Lady Penguins of Dominican Women's Soccer have been dominant this season in conference play, and their games this past week were no exception.

First, the team won its game at Simpson University on Tuesday in a 4-0 route. They followed this up on Saturday with a 2-0 win at Holy Names.

For the week, Freshman Julianne Bratsberg had three goals in a hat-trick at Simpson. Sophomore Bridget Folan had a goal in each game. Sophomore Michelle Mason continues to lead the conference in assists, collecting three more for a total of 16. Freshman Ally Tamayo added a goal against Holy Names. Sophomore Goalkeeper Alicia Paulsen won Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors with her two shutouts.

The team's record now stands at 9-2-2 with a 6-0-1 record in Cal Pac conference play, giving them 13 points in the standings. They enjoy a one point lead over William-Jessup University, who they have already beaten 4-1 earlier this season. They'll look to further their lead this Saturday as they host Mills College at Forest Meadows Field. They'll then hit the road next Tuesday the 28th as they play William-Jessup in a showdown that could very well determine the Conference Champions.

Bolt brilliant as Men's Soccer splits

Dominican Men's Soccer is now tied with Menlo in second place in the Cal Pac Conference standings after a 3-0 win at Simpson University followed by a 0-1 heartbreaking loss at arch-rival Holy Names.

Sophomore Goalkeeper Alex Bolt had an impressive 17 saves over the two matches. Sophomore Shane Huiberts, Freshman Curtis Smedley and Senior Esera Vegas each scored against Simpson. The showdown with Holy Names was a brutal battle. The Penguins managed nine shots on goal against one the best defenses in the conference, a team currently ranked eighth nationally. Ultimately, they fell just short, giving up a goal in the second half.

The team's record now stands at 5-4-3 with a 5-2-1 record against Cal Pac opponents. They host Cal Maritime on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. then host Pacific Union College on Friday, also at 3:00 p.m. Finally, they'll head to William-Jessup next Tuesday.

Women's Volleyball stumbles without Swingle

The Dominican Women's Volleyball team was in the midst of their biggest match of the season on Friday night at Menlo College when they suffered their greatest loss. Sophomore Setter and last week's Conference Player of the Week Brooke Swingle went down with an injury in the third game, severely damaging the team's hopes of a win. The Lady Penguins would battle on, but ultimately fell short against the Lady Oaks, losing 23-25, 26-24, 21-25, 20-25. The team's troubles continued the following night at Bethany, losing in three games, 23-25, 24-26, 21-25.

For the week, Junior Outside Hitter Gabby Pecora continued to play well with a 3.71 kills/game average and 4.43 digs. Junior Outside Hitter Lorel Grande was second in kills with 1.71. Freshman Mercedes Smith led the team in digs with 5.14. Freshman Outside Hitter Cayla Morphew had seven blocks.

The team's record now stands at 6-9 with a 6-3 record in conference play. They have three home matches this week against Academy of Art (Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.), Simpson University (Friday at 7:00 p.m.) and William-Jessup University (Saturday at 7:00 p.m.).
