Penguins on a roll : Men's Soccer wins fourth straight   

After starting their season with three losses and two ties in their first five matches, the Dominican Men's Soccer team has won four consecutive conference games in dominating fashion, including three this past week. 

Winning 4-0 at Pacific Union on Wednesday, 1-0 in overtime at home against William-Jessup on Saturday and 4-0 at home against Bethany University on Tuesday, the Penguins are soaring. Sophomore Midfielder Ryan Vella scored twice against Pacific-Union and also had a goal against Bethany. Senior Forward Brandon Romeo had the game winner against William-Jessup in the sixth minute of the first overtime. Sophomore Goalkeeper Alex Bolt was named Cal Pac Defensive Player of the Week. The whole team has been aggressive defensively, holding their opponents scoreless in three straight games.

The team's next match comes this Saturday on the road at Menlo College. Their next home game will be Wednesday, October 22nd as they host Cal State Maritime.

Lady Penguins stumble; rebound against Pacific Union in Women's Volleyball  

The Dominican Women's Volleyball team faced off against Academy of Art of San Francisco this past Thursday, in a preview of future Pac West Conference rivals. The Lady Penguins lost in three hotly contested games, but showed enough to guarantee a closely watched rivalry for years to come. The team fell short the following night at UC Santa Cruz, losing in four games to the Lady Banana Slugs. But as always, they would bounce back, winning at Pacific Union in three straight games on Saturday night.   

Junior Outside Hitter Gabby Pecora led the team with 27 kills, 34 digs and five service aces. Senior Outside Hitter Amanda Wagner had 20 kills and seven service aces. Sophomore Setter Brooke Swingle had 69 assists and 30 digs. Junior Outside Hitter Lorel Grande had 20 kills, 13 digs and six blocks. Senior Libero Aly Pence had 18 digs despite playing in only two matches. 

The team's record now stands at 4-7 with a 4-1 record in conference play. Their next two matches both come at home as they host Holy Names University on Friday and Mills College on Saturday. Both matches will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Women's Soccer dominate Mills, William-Jessup   

The Dominican Women's Soccer team continue to defend their Cal Pac Conference Championship as they handidly won two Conference matches this past week, winning 7-0 at Mills College last Wednesday before returning home on Saturday to beat William-Jessup University, 4-1.

Playing at Mills, six Lady Penguins would score and five would collect assists. Sophomore Bridget Folan had two goals and an assist while Junior Eleanna Mendez and Freshman Ally Tamayo each had a goal and an assist. Against William-Jessup, Folan would add another goal and Julianne Bratsberg scored twice to secure the win. Sophomore Michelle Mason had three assists on the week. For their efforts, Folan and Bratsberg shared Cal Pac Conference Player of the Week Honors.

The team's record now stands at 6-2-1 with a 3-0 record in Cal Pac conference play. They play Bethany University on Wednesday, October 8th at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Meadows before hitting the road for matches at Menlo College on Saturday and Simpson University on Tuesday.

Men's Golf off to a great start at Hiddenbrook

The Dominican Men's Golf team got their 2008-2009 campaign off to a tremendous start this past weekend at the Cal State Maritime Invitational at Hiddenbrook Country Club, shattering the school record for a par 71 course by ten strokes.

Finishing in third place at their first Cal Pac Conference meet of the year and led by Freshmen Sean Nadir and Garrett Moon as well as Junior Scotty Holdridge, the team’s second 18 hole round of 298 shattered the record set three years ago on a par 71 course. Sean Nadir was low for the Penguins with rounds of 77, 74 for 151. Garrett Moon shot 78, 75 for 153. Holdridge finished at 155, followed by Senior Team Captain Tyler Evans at 156.

The team's plays their next event Thursday, October 16th as they host opponents from all over the Cal Pac at Foxtail North.
