Women's Volleyball : Lady Penguins go 2-1
The Dominican Women's Volleyball team continued to improve this past week.
Despite a 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-21) loss to NCAA powerhouse Cal State East Bay
at home last Wednesday, the team quickly rebounded on the road with a 3-1 win
at Simpson University on Thursday (25-13, 25-15, 23-25, 25-15) followed by a
gut-check come-from-behind 3-2 win at William-Jessup University on Friday
(23-25, 24-26, 25-13, 25-20, 15-7).
For the week,
Sophomore Setter Brooke Swingle averaged 8.0 assists per game and had
3.30 digs/game. Of Dominican's 49 kills against William-Jessup, 41 were off of
Swingle's sets. Junior Outside Hitter Gabby
Pecora continued to tear up opposing defenses as she averaged a
team-leading 3.75 kills/game and a .272 kill percentage. Pecora also led the
team in total service aces with 7, and was second in Digs with 3.75/game.
Junior Outside Hitter Lorel Grande had 2.42 kills/game and 2.75
digs/game. Senior Team Captain Amanda Wagner had 1.27 kills/game and
1.27 digs/game. Grande and Wagner each had five services aces. Freshman Outside
Hitter Cayla Morphew led the team with seven total blocks and 1.33
digs/game.
The team's record now stands at 3-5 with a 3-1 record in conference play. The
team is in for another marathon week as they hit the road for matches at
Academy of Art, UC Santa Cruz and Pacific Union College. Their next home match
comes next Friday, October 10th as they host Holy Names University in a 7:00
p.m. match.
